How Many Bundles Do You Actually Need?
Use your longest length, lace coverage and desired fullness to choose a practical starting quantity—before you spend too much or run short during installation.
Quick answer: if each bundle weighs approximately 90–100g, most 16–24 inch sew-ins begin with 3 bundles. Consider 4 bundles for 26–30 inches, a very full finish, a larger head size or a style with less lace coverage. Short 10–14 inch looks may use 2 bundles for lighter fullness, but 3 gives the installer more flexibility.
This is a starting guide, not a guarantee. Bundle weight, weft length, head size, leave-out, layering and the stylist's construction method can change the final quantity.
Bundle Count by Longest Length
The longest bundle matters because longer hair usually has a shorter weft for the same approximate weight. The chart below assumes full-size bundles of about 90–100g each and is designed as a purchasing starting point.

Closure, Frontal or Leave-Out: What Changes?
Leave-out sew-in
Your own hair covers part of the top and perimeter. A natural-density look may need less extension hair, but the amount of leave-out and the braid pattern still matter.
Closure install
A 4x4, 5x5 or 6x6 closure covers the top area, while bundles build most of the back and sides. For 16–24 inches, 3 bundles remains a practical starting point.
Frontal install
A 13x4 or 13x6 frontal covers more of the front hairline than a closure. It may reduce the bundle requirement, but long lengths and high fullness can still require 3 or 4 bundles.
A lace piece is not automatically “one bundle of hair.” Its size, density and construction vary. Choose the lace for hairline and parting needs first, then calculate the remaining fullness.
Do Curly Textures Need More Bundles?
Not always. Curly and kinky textures often look fuller because the pattern occupies more visual space. However, long curls are normally measured when stretched, and a customer asking for a very full, dramatic finish may still need additional hair.
